We have two volunteering opportunities
within Portsmouth Mind.

The Community Links Befriending Service empowers and supports people to form sustainable links with their local community through 1:1 consistent support and encouragement. It is aimed at people who are socially isolated as a result of experiencing mental distress. We require volunteers to work with service users in the community and their own homes, with a view to reducing social isolation and promoting independence. This could include help with using public transport, joining a community group or taking up a new hobby.

Social centre — we require volunteers to help us in the day to day running of the club, to partake in activities and support service users.

No previous experience is necessary, we merely ask that people believe in our values and principles, and can

remain focused and empower people
convey warmth and enthusiasm
be reliable open and honest
be accepting, understanding
and non-judgemental
be an effective listener

What can we offer you?

A two day induction programme which looks at our aims and values, issues such as boundaries and confidentiality and the role of a volunteer.
Ongoing training opportunities with bi-monthly sessions arranged.
Monthly personal support sessions and a named person within the organisation to contact to discuss any queries or concerns.
Agreed out-of-pocket expenses
The opportunity to gain valuable experience and knowledge of mental health issues
A reference an addition to your CV
The chance to make a real difference to the lives of others

Due to the vulnerability of the people that we work with we need to ask applicants if they have any criminal convictions. This will not necessarily prevent people from doing work for our organisation and any information which you give will be kept in strictest confidence. People are also required to complete an Enhanced Police Disclosure form.

If you're interested in becoming a volunteer, download an Application form, or contact us directly.
