We now offer Mental Health
Awareness training to outside organisations.
The workshops aim to increase people’s knowledge
of mental health issues, as well as reducing stigma
and discrimination.
Agencies that we have provided training for previously
are Surestart ABC and Portsmouth Primary Care Trust
and are commissioned for further sessions for the forthcoming
year.
We provide a 4 hour workshop with refreshments or a
7 hour day to include lunch.
We can tailor the day to your requirements but some
of the aims that can be included are:
 |
To gain an
understanding of what a mental health problem is
and what good mental
health is |
 |
To gain an understanding
of the issues facing people with a mental health
issue |
 |
To target the stigma
and discrimination surrounding mental health |
 |
The signs and symptoms
of stress, depression, anxiety |
 |
To explore strategies
for reducing pressure in attendees own lives |
We use a variety of methods including PowerPoint presentations,
group work, discussion, videos, a board game and presentations
from service-users of their experiences.
Our emphasis through training is very much one of working
on people’s attitudes to mental health and exploring
the ‘us and them’ mentality. We aim to increase
peoples understanding that just as we all have physical
health; we all have mental health that needs to be looked
after.
Venue
We have successfully used community centres and
facilities for training, but are just as happy to deliver
training in a venue of your choice.
Trainers
Workers from Portsmouth Mind facilitate the session
and are experienced in working in mental health services
and in delivering training. Depending on the size of
the group and length of training session one or more
service-users can also help deliver the training to
share their experiences.
Evaluation
We fully evaluate our sessions at the end by
the use of forms, and this is tailored if necessary
before the session to ensure we meet the requirements
of your organisation. We then share the results afterwards
with you along with the chance to discuss any future
sessions.
We provide a certificate of attendance, given on the
day to all attendees as well as a handout containing
the session information.
To discuss your training requirements or book a session,
then please call the general manager at Portsmouth Mind
on
(023) 92 82 7070.
